Two Billion Dollars Later

…and the same problems persist.

Welcome to PS wrx's Blog!

We're building something entirely new: a charter school real estate development and investment company where all profits go to students.

What is PS wrx?

At PS wrx, we're reimagining charter school real estate and finance.

As a not-for-profit, our vision is to make economic mobility a reality for all young people. We work to achieve this by centering students - for generations to come - as the primary beneficiaries of our work.

We have a dual approach:

  1. Providing best-in-class school facilities for all students as a fundamental element of education

  2. Distributing the economic benefits of charter school development directly to students - yes, real dollars in students' bank accounts

Why Now?

Over the past twenty years, PS wrx team members have delivered on-time and on-or-under budget on more than 200 projects across more than $2 billion of investment. We have observed firsthand the tremendous difference this can make in the neighborhoods we serve - yet two fundamental problems persist:

  1. The economics of developing and maintaining school buildings at small scale are extremely inefficient - which means fewer dollars to student-facing programming and more dollars to maintenance, markets, and investors.

  2. While significant investments are being made in the neighborhoods we serve, the economic benefits of those investments rarely reach the community members themselves.

Why Not Just Work Within the System?

After two decades of working in this space, we refuse to keep doing the same thing while expecting different results. (This is, after all, Einstein's alleged definition of insanity.)

The charter school real estate system doesn't need patching - it needs reimagining.

What drives us at PS wrx is our commitment to students, paired with the determination and growth mindset to innovate around systems change until we succeed.

What Can You Expect from this Blog?

Channeling Seth Godin’s work (who offers concise insights about marketing that are a joy to read), we’re aiming to offer our observations and ideas on charter school real estate and finance in ways that are clear and compelling.

We'll explore topics such as real estate financing, building development, facility management, strategic portfolio oversight, financial management, and investing directly in students.

We know aiming for Godin’s level of clarity is ambitious - but we're giving it a go.

Why Are You Reading This?

You're seeing this because we value your expertise and perspective. As we build PS wrx, we're creating a community of innovators committed to transforming lives. We hope you'll join us.

Together, we can create an industry where students share in the benefits of real estate investments in their community, for generations to come.
